Privacy Policy
The bottom line: We have a strict privacy policy. We use the
information you send only to respond to you, or to relay your messages to
other registered users. We do not provide your information to any third
parties that might try to contact you for other purposes. To the extent
we collect information, we do so only to operate and improve our
services. We may make exceptions to these rules to comply with the law,
but we will still make every effort to protect your privacy.
Summary
DartCar will not disclose your email or any other sensitive information to
third-parties. We do not store credit-card information.
We do not consider the stated hourly price of the vehicle to be sensitive
information; we may disclose a vehicle's hourly price to site visitors in the
future.
DartCar does conduct in-depth academic analysis of sharing patterns and
behaviors. We are very careful that this analysis is only published in
aggregate, and does not expose your personal contact information, nor credit
card information, nor other sensitive information.
At the current time, registered visitors to the site have the ability to send
email messages through the site, without the receiver's signing in or granting
permission (this is similar to craigslist). If this system is abused, we will
change it. Let us know by emailing us at info@dartcar.com .
How we store your information
Our security proceedures include:
-
SSL 128-bit encryption,
-
The database that will personal information, is intentionally not accessible
from the Internet.
-
We do not store credit card information
(we allow PayPal and other respectable payment providers to handle this for
us.)
What information do we collect?
At the current time, we do observe the patterns of who shares what with who. We
are observing this so that we may better serve you, and understand the
environmental benefits of carsharing. To ensure privacy, names of the
participants will be separated from historical data, before analysis is
conducted. Our president, as a former UC Berkeley behavioral researcher, takes
data-privacy very seriously. We reserve the right to allow third-party
researchers to access non-sensitive historical data (again, this will not
include your name or contact information. We will add some random error to
starting-point origins, before analysis by researchers.) Please do not use the
service if you have a problem with this.
We may be interested in contacting you again for additional studies in the next
few months. We would send you a short survey, via e-mail, with just a few
additional questions about your transportation patterns.
Please be assured that we will contact you exclusively for research purposes,
and will not share your e-mail address with any third parties.
If you have additional feedback (e.g., new product or service suggestions,
comments about our research, etc.) you would like to share with us, please do so
on this page. [link]
